Bruckner's Eighth in Ebrach

Bruckners Achte in Ebrach

Creation of a Giant

The composer Hugo Wolf once described Bruckner's Eighth Symphony as "the work of a giant." This symphony could not be described more aptly. Both the scale and the musical developments that Bruckner presents in his penultimate symphonic work are gigantic. He also described the premiere, which Wolf also attended, as a "triumph" for the composer, "such as a Roman emperor could not have found more beautiful."

The Crowning Conclusion of BRUCKNER2024

This magnificent symphony is the climax of the BRUCKNER2024 project, which was launched in 2011 in cooperation between the Ebrach Music Summer, Bayerischer Rundfunk – Studio Franken, and the CD label Profil Edition Günter Hänssler. The concert on July 20th at 5 p.m. in the former Ebrach Abbey Church will, of course, once again be performed by the Philharmonie Festiva, the festival orchestra of the Ebrach Festival Summer of Music.

Ebrach – a traditional venue for the performance of Bruckner concertos

Although Anton Bruckner himself never visited Ebrach, he would certainly have been delighted to have his works performed at the Ebrach Music Summer. In any case, the performance of Anton Bruckner's symphonies made Ebrach a place of longing for fans of the music of the master from St. Florian.

Outlook – BRUCKNER2024plus

By 2025, all Bruckner symphonies will have been recorded in all versions, including the rare intermediate versions. However, Bruckner is far from over in Ebrach, as there will be a BRUCKNER2024plus in 2026.
