NEW CD RELEASE: ANTON BRUCKNER'S THIRD SYMPHONY IN THE 1877 VERSION WITH THE PHILHARMONIE FESTIVA

BRUCKNER2024 is getting even better in the finale: In January 2025, another milestone in the BRUCKNER2024 project will be officially released. Bruckner probably spent more time working on his Third Symphony than on any other symphony. Since its creation in 1873, he has continued to work on this work, which was obviously very dear to his heart, until he was very old.

WHAT DISTINGUISHES THE 1877 VERSION?

After recording the 1874 and 1890 versions, we can look forward to another Bruckner CD with the Philharmonie Festiva. The 1877 version is characterized by the fact that Bruckner radically intervened in the form and instrumentation of the symphony and created an almost compact work that combines the impetuous side of the first version with the serenity of the final version. The first movement begins magnificently, the poetic Adagio is wonderful, the Scherzo is playful and the finale flows powerfully. With the 1877 version in particular, Bruckner succeeded in creating a very special, very varied and extremely sonorous work.

RECORDED IN THE REGENTENBAU IN BAD KISSINGEN

In addition to the former Cistercian abbey church in Ebrach, the Max Littmann Hall in the Regentenbau in Bad Kissingen is the second recording location for the BRUCKNER2024 project. This hall in particular is ideal for the performance and recording of the early and middle symphonies written by Anton Bruckner. The recordings of the Study Symphony, the First Symphony in the so-called Vienna version, the early D minor Symphony of 1869, the Fourth with the so-called Volksfest Finale and now also the Third in the 1877 version were made there.
